Website Magic
Creating a Web Business Can Be As Enchanting As Playing the Celtic Harp
I can't even believe I'm writing a page about my "website magic"!
It's not that I don't believe in website magic in general. When I made my first foray into cyberspace, it was certainly magical ~ more magical than anything I could remember since I learning the Dewey Decimal system as a child and realizing that I could find books about anything in the world. All these years later, opening a web browser is like having the keys to an infinite library, ripe with resources just waiting to be plucked. But build my own site? To me, the workings of the web have been like smoke and mirrors, mysterious and far too technical for someone like me ~ who loves music, poetry and art ~ to have the patience to decode. And I'll admit, I just didn't find html code and internet marketing books jazzy enough to wade through them. Instead of discovering "website magic" I was sure I would find "website drudgery". In the meantime, I used the internet everyday to find out more about my passions, especially the Celtic harp. I started to wonder about having my own website, if only to answer all the questions my harp students and music clients were asking! So, like many before me, I tried a popular web hosting service and ran into lots of snags:
~ I couldn't get their templates to work with my Mac
~ I was bored with the options offered and didn't know how to change them
~ There was a page limit ~ ten pages!
~ The few pages I built were actually embarassing in their gracelessness
~ There was absolutely no way to figure out how to get people to visit my pages or how to submit them to the search engines
And I was paying for this! Maybe ten bucks a month isn't much, but it's a lot to spend on nothing but a remote parking place in cyberspace. Then, I ran across a fabulous art and writing site and found out about a different kind of web-hosting company ~ one that would teach me how to easily create good-looking pages, offer lots of information, and make sure the search engines could find me. In fact, this service submits the pages for me, so I don't even have to do that! Now I have several pages in the top ten at the search engines, including Google ~ so that people searching for information about the Celtic harp or lessons can actually find me. After looking at many alternatives, I believe that the company I found ~ Site Build It ~ is one of a kind. Why? Because it delivers cutting-edge knowledge and technology, unlimited space, all-inclusive services (forms, RSS, e-zines--the works), plus excellent step-by-step guidance about writing content, getting traffic, and building a web business. Just the kind of support for a novice like me, or for anyone who wants to spend their time writing pages instead of learning obscure code. While all that technical support is key to building a business that works, I think there is an even more important reason that people who use SBI build successful sites: SBI supports and encourages a culture of optimism and success, right down to the amazing forums full of people who have been there. In other words, SBI teaches site building the same encouraging way that I teach harp lessons! And did I mention that it's fun?
So here I am, almost two years later, still spinning my website magic. I get to spend time writing about what I love, people are able to find out about harp lessons or music for their events, my traffic is steadily growing. Best of all, I am able to make full use of the wonders of the internet and offer real benefit to others. What about you? Are you looking for a way to live your passion and build a web business you can be proud of? If so, I highly recommend that you look into the website magic of Site Build it.
